The Vagina Monologues

As part of the V-Day 2007 College Campaign, students at 12 schools have named us the beneficiaries of their performances of The Vagina Monologues:
Arcadia University
Adelphi University
Albright College
Allegany College of Maryland
Bentley College
Borough of Manhattan Community College
Columbia University
College of Mount Saint Vincent
MIT
SUNY New Paltz
Valpariso Unviersity
The New School

This is an amazing amount of support, and we are so grateful! This support is a huge part of what allows us to keep going, and talking to the V-Day organizers has been really inspirational for me. If you haven’t seen a performance, check out the V-Day site to find a performance near you.

SAFER is also involved with a local production of The Vagina Monologues. The women’s community center where we have our office is hosting a participatory reading that will also benefit SAFER. If you’re in NYC, come on out!

You don’t have to be a performer to give voice to the real women’s stories that make up the monologues! A reception will follow the reading.

New posters and buttons

One of SAFER’s projects this year is the Messaging Project. We’re creating materials with messages that challenge college administrations that aren’t doing anything about the violence in their communities. Students can incorporate the t-shirts, posters, and buttons into their other work to raise awareness and call students to action. We just launched our new posters and buttons and our t-shirts are also available. I know it’s annoying that we have two storefronts for these products, but this way we got much better prices, and we’re able to use suppliers we felt comfortable with. (Do you know how hard it is to find a union-made, organic, non-sexually exploitive, made in the USA t-shirt? Try it for fun.)
