I could have included this in one of my recent posts on depictions of masculinity in advertising, but it was special enough to require its very own.
I give you my all-time favorite commercial associating manhood with uncontrollable appetites and degrading all things “feminine.”
It could have been just another sexist commercial, but these writers went above and beyond expectations. Not only does it associate vegetarianism and minivans with (yucky) femininity, it manages to include an awesome Asian stereotype. And cheerleaders. AND it’s all set to a song that was supposed to be a feminist anthem, with the lyrics reworked to degrade women.
(For those who can’t do audio, subtitles are included on this one–the song is set to the tune of “I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar”)
Way to overachieve, Burger King.
