Well, this shit just won’t go away.
So ever since he started out on his trek-of-douchery across the country to promote his new film, everyone’s been talking about Tucker Max. We did it. Cara did it. Amanda did it. And I say keep talking, because maybe eventually someone besides the choir will hear it. However, the frustrating thing about standing up for something you believe in is, of course, the potential veangence of your opponent. And leave it to Tucker Max fans to strike back with…photoshopped pictures of protesters that joke about rape AND are racist!
Yup. Over at the Tucker Max message board is the “Official Raleigh Protestor Photoshop Thread,” where photos of the men and women who protested Max’s movie at North Carolina State University have been photoshopped so their signs say things like “I’m mad cuz no one will rape me,” “Rape culture? That means I get laid, right?” “1 in 3 NC State Women are Angry Black People,” “Women deserve to call rape ’surprise sex,’” “Rape is funny,” and “Rape is Fun.” Oh also, according to the photoshopped signs, female protestors are lesbians, fat women love eating burgers and are inherently mockable, and men who protest rape culture are lame and either are gay or can’t get laid. That about covers it.
There’s not much to say about this. As per usual, I’m not surprised, only increasingly disgusted. But here’s the thing: Max swears that neither he, his book, or his movie promote rape culture. In the Q&A at NC State he said:
“Fucking rape sucks, dude,” Max said. “It’s, like, not a joke, and I feel like [the protesters'] hearts are probably in the right place, to be honest. But I fell like they’re fucking it up, man, because what they’re doing is really kind of devaluing the seriousness of an actual crime. . . . Dude, I mean, the discussion about where consent lies and doesn’t lie is an important one, and should be had, but this is not the fucking forum. And, uh, and that’s never been an issue for me, so, I don’t know man, I feel like if that’s an issue to you, that’s great, and you should pursue it, but pursue it with the people who it needs to be pursued with. And not with me.”
Yeah. Rape does suck, dude, and it’s like, not a joke. So put your money where your mouth is and take this shit off your website, huh? Yeah, you’re not your fans, but your fans are doing this on your website (which I’m assuming you pay someone to moderate) in your defense. And as of right now, you and your legion of admirers just went from being a minor annoyance representative of a much larger issue, to a despicable bunch of cyber-bullies who have been explicit about what they think of sexual assault: HILARIOUS.
